Dennis Michael Jones

Originally from Detroit, Dennis Jones now resides in Plymouth, Michigan. He is a licensed practicing architect, an educator and artist. He completed his formal education as an architect from the University of Detroit in 1983, where he was awarded a teaching scholarship . In 1984, he received a Second Place Award of $5000.00, with his entry for The New York Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Competition. In 1988, while in his graduate studies at Wayne State University he was awarded a scholarship from The Detroit Artist's Market. He completed his Master in Fine Arts degree, in Painting, in1990. Since, he has exhibited his work extensively in the Detroit area and beyond.

Jones has been an adjunct professor of color theory, 2d and 3D design concepts at The College for Creative Studies since 2002. He has also taught architectural design and drawing at The University of Detroit, Wayne State University and Macomb County Community College.

Dennis Jones is one of four artists participating in 'Dehuman', a traveling exhibition that opened in January 2006 at the Thames Gallery, in Chatham, Ontario. The exhibition will travel to Kenderdine Art Gallery, on the campus of University of Saskatchewan, Definitely Superior Gallery, in Thunder Bay, Gallery Lambton, in Sarnia, WKP Kennedy in North Bay and then to The Woodstock gallery in Woodstock, Ontario in 2008. He is the only artist from the U.S. included in this exhibition.

In August of 2002, Jones completed a commission to design and install a large mural and stone sculpture located in the new Plymouth High School. Jones was responsible for budgeting, managing and executing the thirty thousand dollar project. Also in 2002, he won a Best of show Award , for his triptych entry to the Artists Among Us Exhibition . In April of 2004, Jones received a Second Place Award of $2000.00 for his entry in the Michigan Fine Arts Competition held at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center
